Barnes and Noble on Wednesday evening to sign copies of her new book, many of her "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" co-stars were on-hand, including Kyle Richards, Camille Grammer, and Adrienne Maloof. But one supporter in attendance raised eyebrows and concerns: Armstrong's five-year-old daughter, Kennedy. It's not that a book signing isn't the place for a child, it's just that the subject matter of the book seems a tad inappropriate for the little girl's ears. Hiding from Reality: My Story of Love, Loss and Finding the Courage Within chronicles the years of physical and emotional abuse her mother suffered at the hands of her own father, Russell Armstrong, who committed suicide last August.
At the signing, Armstrong, 40, spoke openly at a podium about what she went through with her late husband -- all while little Kennedy sat just a few feet away at nearby table, where her mother later signed copies of her book and met with fans who shared similar stories of their own abuse. The kindergartener seemed unfazed as she goofed around with a copy of Armstrong's memoir. Also at the event were professional therapists and doctorates from 1776 Family Crisis Center and W.I.N.N. Foundation, who answered questions from attendees about domestic abuse.
Although it's unclear how much the child understands about the situation, Armstrong has said she was with her the day she discovered Russell's hanged body at a friend's house. Luckily, Kennedy was in the car outside with Armstrong's assistant at the time. But, "I came running from the house and just kind of fell onto the asphalt and was screaming hysterically and crying," Armstrong told Ryan Seacrest on his morning radio show Wednesday. The "Housewife" also revealed that she has yet to tell her daughter about Russell's suicide. "I'm not ready for her to understand that someone can just stop their own life," she said. "It's not something that I'm comfortable with her knowing."

Despite the pain, sharing her story has helped heal Armstrong's deep emotional wounds. Her many fans have sent words of encouragement via Twitter and in-person at her book signings all over the country. After Wednesday's event, she tweeted, "I'm grateful for all of the amazing support and heartfelt stories at my book signing event at Barnes&Noble last night."
