Ricki Lake supports at-home child birth. Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage.com Ricki Lake was recently criticized by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) and the American Medical Association (AMA) for bringing attention to at-home child birth with her film, "The Business of Being Born." In the documentary, the former talk show host is seen giving birth naturally to her now 7-year-old son Owen in her Manhattan apartment.

While Ricki made the movie to show women that there is a safe alternative to hospital birth, the physician groups disagree. The ACOG released a statement saying that "the safest setting for labor, delivery, and the immediate post-partum period is in the hospital" - not the home.

"I am pro-choices and that's really what it's about," explains Ricki, who delivered her oldest son Milo (11) in the hospital without any problems. "My movie isn't against the hospitals and doctors and technology. It's wanting to incorporate midwives into the system a little bit more and have better outcomes and better birth experiences."

See what else Ricki has to say about the issue in this "Access Hollywood" interview:

Would you give birth at home?

NO DANGER????? Mid wives arent equipt with the medical necessities should something go wrong. When i had my son 10 years ago, a baby came in from at home birth and died that night, the same night i had my child. Hey im all for experiments but do u gotta do em to ur children?

I THINK IT DEPENDS ON A NUMBER OF THINGS, SOME HOSPITALS HAVE NO BED SIDE MANNER. EVERYTHING IS CLINICAL. OTHERS, CATER TO THE NEW MOM. RICKI LAKE IS SIMPLY STATING WHAT WORKED FOR HER. IF YOUR NOT COMFORTABLE GIVING BIRTH AT HOME THEN DON'T. IF YOU WOULD FEEL BETTER IN A MEDICAL FACILITY DO THAT. PERIOD YOU DO YOU.

you say you would give birth at home, but if something went wrong you sure would be wishing you were at a hospital. its a fact that sometimes births do not go as planned and medical intervention is needed. would you want to risk mom or babies life so you could give birth at home? no way!

Every woman is different. Some are healthy and are able to have their babies at home. More power to those women. People like me, with high blood pressure and was considered high risk, was not able to even if I wanted to. I actually had to have an emergency c-section. Therefore, I was lucky to be in a hospital. Again... It really just depends on the health of the woman.

I would get birth to my baby at home over the hospital any day! Think about it ladies, woman have been having babies out of hospitals for thousands of years. Also dont any of you American's out there know that America has one of the worst infant mortality rates of any developed country. It is a proven statistic that home births are just as safe as hospital births. Think for yourself!

Whether U give birth in a hospital or home, think of the baby's well being if U don't think of yours. If u do opt for a home birth, make sure U do ur reseach & have qualified & certified people by ur side. After all UR putting baby & your self in a risk that you may not have to. Complications may occur whether in a hospital or a home, having the right staf

I think its safer to have UR baby in the hospital 'cause U never know what's going to happen. The hospital is equip w/ everything they need if any complications should arise during the birth. It doesn't matter if the mother & baby is healthy, having a home birth is a risk. What if the umbilical cord is caught around the baby's neck, what then, you can
