Kourtney Kardashian names daughter Penelope Scotland: What does it mean?

The Kardashian family is not getting another K-named member. Oldest sibling Kourtney gave birth to daughter Penelope Scotland on Sunday morning in Los Angeles with longtime boyfriend Scott Disick by her side. The 7-pound, 14-ounce bundle of joy joins big brother Mason, 2. "Scott and I are overjoyed to welcome our precious angel Penelope Scotland Disick into our lives," the 33-year-old reality star tells E! News. "We are forever blessed. Mommy and baby are resting comfortably."

Kourtney's mother Kris Jenner was also on hand to welcome her second grandchild into the world. The delivery "was great," she told the network, which is home to their "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" show. "She had an easy delivery. [Penelope] is so cute. She looks just like Mason. She's so beautiful. We are so happy."

So where does Penelope Scotland come from? As for the little one's first name, it "has been one of the hottest rising girls' names in America over the past several years," Laura Wattenberg of Baby Name Wizard tells omg!. "Parents love its distinctive galloping Greek rhythm. It follows Chloe and Phoebe as hit names with that Grecian -e ending — a great route to a traditional, feminine name that doesn't end in the ubiquitous -a. You'll doubtless see Kourtney Kardashian getting credit for the coming Penelope boom. But … the trend was already underway. For instance, Tina Fey named her daughter Penelope last year and Taylor Hanson [did the same] in 2005."

As for Penelope's middle name Scotland, which reportedly was the suggestion of Jenner's mother, Wattenberg believes "it's intended as the flipside of Mason's middle name Dash," which is a nod to his mother's famous last name — and her family's clothing boutiques. "With Ireland modestly popular as a girl's name, it's not as unconventional as it would have seemed in the past."

She's barely 24 hours old, but already baby Penelope is getting fawned over by her famous aunts Kim and Khloe. Both reality stars have already posted online about their little niece joining their big family. "The whole family is so thrilled to finally meet her!" Kim writes on her blog. "She is absolutely perfect! I am so excited to be an aunt again and can't wait to spoil little Penelope. I know Mason is going to be the best big brother in the whole world." Khloe, who has been receiving IVF treatments in order to conceive with her husband Lamar Odom, describes her niece as "the most perfect baby girl you've ever seen … And Mason is already loving being a big brother! This is just such a special and happy time for my family."
