Katie Holmes Is a Mom on the Move

Forget Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, and even George Clooney and Stacy Keibler. Hollywood's most watched couple has got to be Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise, her 5-year-old daughter with Tom Cruise. The little one's adoration for high heels, her fashion choices, and even her toy preferences are constantly under scrutiny. But in a new interview with Marie Claire, Katie, 32, reveals that she shares something in common with other working moms -- a struggle to balance life with family and career. The former "Dawson's Creek" star's job currently includes promoting the film "Jack and Jill," an Adam Sandler comedy that hits theaters November 11, and designing the clothing line Holmes & Yang with stylist Jeanne Yang.

Sometimes, they keep Katie busy into the night, making it difficult to occupy Suri. "My daughter was with me the other day at a work event and it was a long day," Katie explains to the magazine. "I took out some paper and markers that I had in my bag, and someone said to me, 'Oh, that is so cute,' and I looked at her and thought, 'No, this is not cute. This is what all mothers have to do.'"

Not that Katie is just any working mom. She realizes that being in the Hollywood spotlight does comes with its perks for Suri. "Being around this business, my daughter is exposed to people with incredible talent, people who are the best at what they do. People I only dreamed of getting to work with as a little girl," she says.

Still, there are times when Katie isn't sure what to do when it comes to parenting. That's when she relies on someone close to her heart -- her mom, Kathleen, who raised her in Toledo, Ohio -- for answers. "When I am at a loss, I always come back to my mother: What would my mother say? What would she do? That, and I always bring a snack and a coloring book," the "Kennedys" star confesses.

Despite the craziness, Katie admits that she's ready to forge ahead in her life by adding some interesting projects to her resume as well as some adventures with her little lady. "I'm excited to begin a new phase: roles I might have been afraid to play before, places I want to travel to with my daughter," she says. "I'd like to build the design business. But not too fast."

She can rest assured everyone will be watching to see what's next.
