Jennifer Hudson’s son is a ‘Smash’ on the set

Monday was Take Your Child to Work Day for Jennifer Hudson. The actress-singer has been shooting a guest-starring role on "Smash" and brought her son along with her to the New York City set.
A "Sesame Street" fan, David Otunga Jr. had on yummy little Cookie Monster shoes for his visit. The 3-year old stuck close to his mom, who sported stirrup pants and an oversized sweater on the cool summer day. David's love of the Muppets seems to be a recurring theme: Days earlier, he wore a Cookie Monster shirt while out with a babysitter.

On Tuesday, Hudson was back at work again — this time sans David. The Weight Watchers spokesperson, who has lost more than 80 pounds, had on a much skimpier outfit, too. Dressed in a short nightgown and hot pink robe, the 30-year-old playfully waved to photographers as she walked down the block in the sleepwear.

Hudson will appear in several episodes of musical series when it returns to the tube in January. She will play Tony-Award winning Broadway actress Veronica Moore in the NBC show, which also stars Katherine McPhee, Megan Hilty, and Debra Messing. In a teaser clip for Season 2, Hudson has a scene in which she tells McPhee's character, Karen, "Someone's always waiting to take you down, honey."

This role marks the "Dream Girls" star's first return to the small screen following the devastating murder of her mother, brother, and young nephew in 2008. Her sister's ex-boyfriend William Balfour was convicted on all seven counts against him in May 2012.
In a recent interview with the AP, Hudson said she was looking forward to getting back to work. "It's just the perfect opportunity," she said. "It's gonna be challenging, and I'm a little bit intimidated to play this big Broadway star. But it's gonna be a great experience. I can't wait."

And the fact that she can bring her son with her to the set makes the gig that much sweeter.
