The 40-year-old actress, who played Jesse Spano on the popular Saturday morning TV show about student drama at Bayside High School, gave birth to son Sky Cole Lauren in Los Angeles on Friday. The baby, whose father is artist Greg Lauren (nephew of designer Ralph Lauren), weighed in at 8 pounds.

"The moment we both saw him it was love at first sight," the couple, who married in 2003, told People. "We are over the moon and grateful to start this amazing adventure together as a family."

She also took to Twitter to thank her 43,000 followers for their well wishes. "Thank u for your beautiful wishes and blessings," Berkley wrote. "We r grateful!

The name Sky is categorized as a nature name and it certainly gives off a sunny vibe. Though technically a unisex moniker, the Social Security Administration's Popular Baby Names list shows that Sky and its variant Skye are more often given to baby girls born in the United States than boys. However, there have been a couple of famous male Skys in pop culture history (characters in "Guys and Dolls" and "Mamma Mia.") Also, the name Skyler has become a hugely popular for boys in the last 20 years — it's what celebrity stylist Rachel Zoe named her little one last year — so the shortened Sky could see a boost in popularity for male newborns as well.

Asked what she was looking forward to the most? "Just the love," she said. "Simply put."
