Singer JoJo Talks About New Album, No Texting While Driving Campaign

David Livingston/Getty ImagesSoulful singer JoJo was just 13 when her hit "Leave (Get Out)" hit radio airwaves in 2004. Except for starring alongside Emma Roberts in the 2006 movie "Aquamarine" and releasing a second album, The High Road, in 2006, she's mostly been in the background since. But now, at 21, JoJo is poised to take back the spotlight with her long-awaited collection of new tunes, Jumping Trains, which she had a hand in writing, and is set to hit stores in the spring.

"I've never stopped recording, so it's kind of taken on a new shape as time has gone on," JoJo recently told omg!. "And, you know, I'm still in the creative process. Whenever I'm inspired, I'll go in the studio and just lay down my thoughts [about] what's going on."

The "Too Little Too Late" singer also revealed that her sound may have changed a bit because she's simply grown up and has more life experience to include in her songs. Relationships with guys, for example, are something she now knows a lot more about these days, though at the moment romance is taking a backseat to her career.

"I actually have a treble clef tattoo on my ring finger," she explained. "I guess that can be kind of daunting to see, especially for a guy. I mean, until there's a big shiny rock over that tattoo, music is my commitment, music is what'll take precedence over any man." Well, almost any man; The Massachusetts native confessed that she has a weakness for a certain type of guy.

Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic "Right now, I'm really into boys that look like they're from south Boston, kind of rough around the edges, but with good family values. Kind of like Mark Wahlberg," JoJo noted. "I like my Boston boys!"

Wherever their roots, any guy who hopes to snag JoJo's heart would be wise to avoid the bad habit of texting and driving. It's something she feels so strongly about that she's teamed with the website Cambio to help with AT&T's "It Can Wait" campaign against texting while behind the wheel. JoJo is the narrator of several clips to promote the cause, and she's encouraging fans to pledge via Facebook that they won't engage in the practice that, according to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, makes drivers 23 times more likely to crash. "I think texting and driving is one of the most important issues, especially facing my generation," the singer said. "It's something that we all have engaged in ... and something that maybe we don't think about as being such a major concern. But I wanted to bring attention to it."

Take the pledge and watch the videos at the "It Can Wait" Facebook page.

(to above comment): sad that you qualify YouTube as a standard. We smart people "may" utilize YouTube as a source for a documentaries. Voila~ Videos of JoJo singing without any bells or whistles. STANDARD THAT!

She's gorgeous and she always was. I always wished I looked like her :) But I've also loved her singing. Her natural talent. I love ALL of her songs and wish her nothing but the BEST. She deserves alot more recognition than she's gotten. And now she's doing the "No Texting While Driving" campaign. That's awesome of her to do that. She's amazing in all aspects of life. Keep up the awesome work (and singing/song writing), JoJo! Keep on keeping on ;) and keep on being amazing!

Ha! I remember seeing her on the Maury Povich show episode for talented kids. Well, I know what she sounded like then and in 2004, I will look her up on youtube to see what she sounds like. Maury, Ha, that's funny. Well, everyone starts out somewhere.

While I think she is odd looking, she proves herself to be a good role model for little girls. No surgery, no drugs, no fake boobs, no bad boyfriends and volunteer work. I'd rather look at her face than look at Lindsey Lohan's retarded face or any of the trashy hollywood party girls
      • ME 3 months ago
Little girls role models should be their mommies, daddies or big sisters.

Not somebody they don't know and likely never will know.

All you know about any celebrity is what they, their publicist and the media decides that you should know.

Thats not what a role model is.
      • nicki 3 months ago
That is great that you think that and good for you. Unfortunately it is not realistic in any way in our society. There have been role models literally since human beings have existed.

ME is in some denial about our culture. He sounds like a 10 year old stating his hopes for the world.......kind of sweet and sad at the same time.
