Former *NSYNC member Lance Bass, 33, experienced that firsthand when his phenomenally successful group took a break that ended up being a breakup in 2002. So when TMZ cameras caught him leaving Katsuya sushi restaurant in L.A. Monday night, he was happy to offer some financial advice to Harry Styles, a member of the uber-hot British boy band One Direction. Styles, 18, was recently seen cruising the streets of Beverly Hills in a convertible Ferrari California, which costs about $200,000. When asked whether or not the ride was a wise buy, Bass replied: "It's a terrible investment at this stage. Save your money! Save your money!" he told the website. "Invest in something that'll make you money." As of Tuesday afternoon, Bass will be happy to know that Styles' rep tells TMZ that the car was only a rental.
Still, Bass might wish someone would have given him that advice a decade ago. In late 2002, the 33-year-old spent big bucks in preparation to go on a space flight as part of — what else? — a reality show. However, the sponsors that were supposed to be paying the estimated $20 million cost of Bass' training and the flight didn't come through with the money, according to MSNBC.com. He ended up paying his own way through some of the training and earning his certification as a cosmonaut. He's since shown up on TV shows occasionally, including "Dancing With the Stars."

Meanwhile, One Direction's Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson are more popular than ever. In March, they became the first British act to debut their first album at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
