Nick Jonas: JoBros in ‘No Rush’ to Reunite

Nick Jonas talks to omg! Imeh Akpanudosen/WI/Getty Images North AmericaIt's hard to believe Nick Jonas is only 19 years old. The New Jersey-born pop star has spent years touring and recording with the sibling sensation the Jonas Brothers; has his own band, Nick Jonas and the Administration; is about to take on a big Broadway role; and will hit the small screen again as part of a new network drama next year. Still, the humble teen heartthrob never misses a chance to let you know he "feels blessed" to have been given all of these fantastic opportunities (especially considering the average kid would probably be happy with just one). The JoBro recently got the chance to give an unknown aspiring singer her own shot at a music career when he helped lead the Quaker Chewy Superstar Search, rewarding a 14-year-old girl from Florida with a management contract and the chance to record a song he wrote and produced. Nick talked to omg! about what it takes to make it in the music biz, what he looks for in a girl (listen up, ladies!), and whether he has any regrets about spending his teen years in the spotlight.

Why did you want to get involved in a talent search?
"It felt like an amazing opportunity and it was targeted at ages 8 to 14. So it was a specific age group that we were going after and basically wanted to find a really talented young person who was as passionate about music as I was at that age. It was so great to see young people on all these videos get involved and share their voice with me and the Quaker team."

What were you looking for in a pop star?
"Someone with a really great tone to their voice and someone with a unique voice; someone that I felt that I could write a good song for. There are so many reality music competition shows on these days -- 'American Idol,' 'X-Factor,' 'The Voice.'"

What do you think of them? Can they still launch music careers?
"I think if they're done the right away, definitely. Obviously, there are so many amazing careers launched from talent search shows. And I know that when I was younger, if I had the opportunity to do a show like that, it would be great. My journey was a different one and I'm blessed with the route that I took, but I think it's an amazing launching pad, as long as the steps taken after it are positive."

You became famous at a very young age. Do you ever wonder what it would've been like to have "normal" teenage years? Any regrets?
"I think that I did have a very normal life growing up. Normal for me was doing what I love. I was surrounded by other young people when I was 8 to 11 years old, doing musical theater in New York, and I felt abnormal being in a normal school setting. When I was with people who were passionate about what I was passionate about, I felt at home and comfortable."

Are the Jonas Brothers going to start touring or recording together again anytime soon?
"I think the main focus for the three of us has been our individual projects the past year. We've been excited to follow those goals and dreams on all of our individual projects and opportunities, and that's continuing as I'm gearing up to go do 'How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying' on Broadway, which I'm really excited about. I think we definitely will get back together at some point, continue to record and tour for our fans, but we're in no rush and we're taking our time on that."

I hear you're going to guest star as a "deadbeat dad" on Tim Allen's new sitcom "Last Man Standing." That's hard to picture …
"I would love to be able to think about that, but part of my deal with them is to not speak about it until a later point, so I can't tell you much. But I just filmed an NBC show called 'Smash.' It's a new show Steven Spielberg produced, coming out February of next year. And I'm guest appearing on that as a character named Kyle West, and playing opposite Anjelica Huston and Debra Messing and all these amazing actors. That was an amazing opportunity as well."

So what are you more focused on these days, acting or singing?
"I'm definitely excited about both acting and singing and recording and all that, and all these different areas of the entertainment world I'm blessed to be able to kind of jump into. Musical theater is obviously something I'm very passionate about. The TV work that I'm doing now is amazing and am blessed to be part of that. At the end of the day, recording music is a huge passion of mine. Continuing to write and produce for other people as well is something I'm doing more of and will be doing more of. It's all about just finding things I'm excited about in that moment."

If you weren't in show business, what do you think you might be doing?
"I think I'd be an athlete of some sort. I'd love to believe I could become a professional baseball player. I play baseball and I'm very passionate about baseball as it is."

I know you don't want to talk about your personal life, but I'm sure there are plenty of girls out there wondering what you look for in a girlfriend. Please share!
"Someone with a good heart is always important and someone I can connect with on a multitude of levels about music and life. I love to have a good conversation about the world."
