Miley Cyrus debuts an edgy new ‘do: ‘Never felt more me in my whole life’

It's a summer of bold decisions for Miley Cyrus! After the 19-year-old raised some eyebrows in June when she announced she's planning to marry Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, she's completely changed up her look, debuting a platinum blond, super short, very edgy new hairstyle.

The extreme makeover took place on Sunday when Cyrus visited celebrity stylist Chris McMillan's famed hair chair. (He was responsible for creating "The Rachel" for Jennifer Aniston during the "Friends" era.) The "Party in the U.S.A." singer tweeted photos throughout the experience, which involved lightening her dirty blond hair to an almost platinum hue, chopping off her shoulder-length locks, and drastically cropping it everywhere except for the front, which has long, layered, wild bangs.

Cyrus was immediately a huge fan of her hair overhaul, telling her 7.5 million Twitter followers that she "never felt more me in my whole life" and noting that she's "feeling so happy in my skin." But she quickly received negative feedback for her dramatic new look, causing her to go on the defensive. "If you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all. my hair is attached to my head no one else's" she wrote. Later she added, "my dad @billyraycyrus used to tell me 'opinions are like a--holes everybody has one.' LOVE my hair. feel so happy, pretty, and free."

Apparently Cyrus' decision to go short has been a long time in the making. During an interview with ABC News in 2008 she said, "One day I'm going to cut my hair like [model Twiggy]. I know I am. I will one day."

While it remains to be seen whether Cyrus will walk down the aisle with her "The Last Song" co-star Hemsworth, 22, rocking this funky new look, she will bring it to television this fall. According to reports, the former "Hannah Montana" star has inked a deal to be a guest star this season on "Two and a Half Men." She will appear in several episodes of the show and is said to be a love interest for Angus T. Jones' character, Jake.
