Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley Pucker Up For ‘Gossip Girl’

Has Valentine's Day come early on the set of "Gossip Girl"? Former frenemies Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) were snapped in a lip lock while filming the CW show in NYC on Monday. The pair has been growing closer over the past two seasons, with Dan even attempting to help Blair make a run for it to the Dominican Republic for a quickie divorce after she exchanged vows with Monaco's Prince Louis (Hugo Becker) last week.

In recent episodes, Dan has been conflicted over his growing feelings for Blair, who is also juggling her royal beau and on-and-off love Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick). So will the two finally come clean and make it official -- or is this scene merely a dream sequence? "Gossip Girl" executive producer Josh Safran would only say, "That story's going to go in an interesting direction," when asked by E! Online about the blossoming relationship.

This much is true: the description for the upcoming Valentine's Day episode, titled "Crazy, Cupid, Love," reveals that Blair plays cupid "for someone she loves," while Dan's ex Serena (Blake Lively) "is shocked by something she witnesses" at Nate's (Chace Crawford) Valentine's Day party.

It was also revealed this week by "Gossip Girl" co-creator Josh Schwartz that Meester was forced to go from blonde to brunette after she first read for the part of Blair because the show's star, Lively, was already fair-haired. "So we asked her to color her hair," Schwartz told The Hollywood Reporter. "A risky move on her part in the middle of pilot season, but she did a sink-rinse dye job to audition as a brunette." Meester did return to her blond roots for her role in last year's "The Roommate," as a college co-ed obsessed with her roomie -- played by another dark-haired actress Meester is often mistaken for, Minka Kelly.

Schwartz also dished that Lively too had to change up her tresses for "Gossip Girl" when it first aired in 2007. "The network was concerned that she was 'too California,'" Schwartz told THR. "So we dressed her up in boarding school attire -- clothes out of Stephanie's [Savage, co-creator] closet -- and straightened her hair to prove that she could look New York." Another switcheroo before the show started? Westwick initially auditioned for the role of Nate … which is hard to imagine since he's the perfect Chuck!
