Beau Mirchoff walks the red carpet. (WireImage)Cliques, bullies, and your first big heartbreak — high school can be brutal. Beau Mirchoff, 23, is reliving some of those tough times now on MTV's high school-centered series "Awkward." He plays Matty, a popular jock who's in love with the main character, Jenna, played by Ashley Rickards. At the end of the first season, Jenna ended up choosing Matty's best friend over him, so when we pick up in the new season Thursday, things between them are a little uncomfortable. "It's a confusing, heartbreaking time for him," Mirchoff tells omg! From Yahoo!, adding that he still thinks Jenna and Matty have a chance.
Mirchoff was such a fan favorite last season that he's been nominated for a 2012 Teen Choice Award in the category of TV Breakout Star: Male. Teens can vote once a day for the award until the ceremony airs live on Fox at 10 p.m. ET on July 22. The nomination reminded Mirchoff of his own schooldays in British Columbia, Canada. "I remember in high school, I got an award for football, and since then I haven't had an award for anything. So I thought I was done with the whole accolades thing, but apparently not," he jokes. "It's really cool. It means fans like the show, and I guess some people like Matty, so it makes me feel good. I couldn't be any more happy." Viewers are going to be happy, too, when they see the new episodes, Mirchoff says. "It's better than Season 1, and they're going to enjoy everything we have to bring this year."

But before you run off to set the DVR for the premiere, check out the answers Mirchoff gave us in our Crush Questionnaire:
If you had a time machine, what period would you visit? I would go to 10th century Wessex, when the Danes are trying to conquer Britain. I read these books that take place in that time. I find the whole knights and armor and riding a horse, and traveling around the countryside, finding your own food — I find it all very romantic.
What was your first job? I was a paperboy when I was like six years old, but then I dumped my papers and got in trouble for that. Next job, I worked at U-Haul Moving and Storage. I remember I would take naps in the storage room. And then I worked in a restaurant, a bar, I worked in a kitchen, I bussed tables ...
What is your pet peeve? You know when you're traveling north and people go — like say from [L.A.] going to Seattle — you'd say up because on a map you're heading up. So when people go, "I'm heading down to Seattle," but you're not heading down. I hate that!
Who is your celebrity crush? Paula Deen, because she can cook!
What are your favorite songs on your iPod? I was listening to "The Wall" [by rockers Pink Floyd] yesterday, so I'll go with that whole album. And "Bye Bye Bye" by Backstreet Boys of course ... or *NSYNC. I remember me and some friends would actually put that song on and we would choreograph a dance.
