Ever wonder what Carrie Bradshaw was like as a teen? The Kobal Collection/WireImage.com "Sex and the City" was definitely not created with teens in mind, but somehow the TV series about a group of single women in their 30s living in Manhattan became popular with teenage girls anyway. Even Miley Cyrus admitted she was a huge fan of the show -- the cleaned-up TBS version that is.
Now "Sex and the City" author Candace Bushnell has inked a deal with HarperCollins to write a couple of young adult novels about Carrie Bradshaw's high school years called "The Carrie Diaries." According to the book's publishers, Alessandra Balzer and Donna Bray, the books will take "readers back to Carrie Bradshaw's formative years in high school, giving an inside look at Carrie's friendships, romances, and how she realized her dream of becoming a writer."
Balzer tells the New York Observer that the novels will be set in New York, as well as in whatever suburb Carrie supposedly spent her childhood. "I think [Carrie will] ... hang out in the city on the weekend, and have a lot of social interaction there," notes Balzer. "And then eventually she'll come to college [in New York], as Candace did."
In a statement released by HarperCollins, Bushnell adds, "Carrie in high school did not follow the crowd -- she led it. It was there that she began observing and commenting on the social scene."
Although "The Carrie Diaries" may be aimed at young adults, I have a feeling many older fans of the show will be buying copies as well. I know I can't wait to find out more about Carrie! Can you?
Look for the book to hit shelves in fall 2010.
