Lindsay Lohan interviews Dylan Bruce. (E!)
Rocking skintight black pants, fiery red locks, and a gold cross necklace, the 27-year-old actress kicked off the show with a special thank you.
"I'd like to thank the celebrities who kept the tabloid industry alive in my absence," she cooed with a smile. Included on her list were New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner, new dad Kanye West, badly behaving Justin Bieber, and, finally, the royal baby.
Looking positively luminous, Lindsay assured the audience, "I'm back. I'm happy. I'm healthy. And I'm sorry paparazzi, but you want to take pictures of someone who's really f----d up, you're just going to have to wait until Chelsea's back."
But Lindsay did more than show up, look good, and deliver some zingers. She instantly gelled with her comedy panel and even managed to inject some personal commentary into the discussion without taking it over.
When discussing the first story, which happened to be about Harry Styles having a possible sexual relationship with a gay DJ, Lindsay quipped, "I've been there." And later, when the focus turned to Kristen Stewart screaming at a photographer who had been following her, Lindsay noted, "I'm just excited that Kristen Stewart finally showed some emotion." In other words, Lohan's got jokes, including a few about herself.
During a discussion about American bars protesting Russia's anti-gay laws by pouring out vodka on the streets, Lohan revealed, "I know I can't drink vodka. I'm physically allergic to vodka." When a panel member asked her what happens when she drinks the forbidden liquor, Lindsay quipped, "I end up in rehab and jail. Rightfully so."
Jokes aside, however, Lohan conducted a completely focused and entertaining interview of her guest, "Orphan Black" star Dylan Bruce. The two seemed to have genuine chemistry as she professed her adoration of the show and chatted with him about how "sad" it is that he goes to the movies by himself.
Perhaps her greatest achievement of the night, however, was her casual-but-persistent promotion of her latest flick, "The Canyons," which has received some less than stellar (to put it mildly) reviews. Lindsay managed to thank the director, mention how "grateful" she was for the experience, and show a clip (which featured her crying hysterically), all without letting it take over the entire half-hour gig.
And while she made a few comments that we're not completely buying — like her claim that she would "love it" if the press stopped taking pictures of her — she had far more hits than misses while perched in Chelsea's chair. So while her new film might fizzle out, Lohan's career might be heating up... if Chelsea extends her vacation, that is.
