Peter Robbins, the actor who provides the voice of the beloved Charlie Brown character in many of Charles Schulz’s animated “Peanuts” TV specials, was arrested in San Diego on Sunday on five felony charges, including four counts of death threats and one count of stalking. He was booked early Monday morning with bail set at $550,000, and he’s set to be arraigned on Wednesday.
According to The Union-Tribune, his manager said she could not discuss the arrest but would be releasing a statement later on Wednesday. The paper spoke with Angelica de Cima, a spokeswoman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, who told them that the arrest was made just after 8 p.m. on Sunday at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, where Robbins was crossing from Tijuana, Mexico, to San Diego, and that Robbins was alone when arrested. He was “driving a silver 2006 Mercedes-Benz C230 when a border officer referred him to an area for a more thorough examination.”
A routine systems check lead to the determination, “that Robbins was wanted by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for a felony warrant for crimes against a person,” and he was then taken into custody.
Robbins maintains a Facebook page with 248 “Likes,” and he’s recently posted on topics ranging from Lance Armstrong’s interview with Oprah to his own cycling ventures. Fans have voiced only messages of support so far for Robbins.
“Hang in there, Chuck! Seriously, none of us are perfect. Chin up! Face the music! Fix the problem! Put it behind you! Resolve to be better today. Sending prayers your way from Lubbock, Texas today. God bless you,” Todd Collins wrote.
“Sorry to hear about your situation, Peter. Hopefully it will all work out for you,” Bobby Logan of Studio City, California, wrote.
There’s been no word yet from Lucy or Peppermint Patty.
