Taylor Swift’s ‘Trespasser’ Might Not Be That Into Her After All

It's possible that the young man accused of trespassing near Taylor Swift's posh new Rhode Island summer home may not have deserved the "crazed fan" label after all.

Lucas H. Vorsteveld, who made headlines earlier this month after being arrested near the country singer's newly purchased $17.75 million property in the exclusive coastal town of Watch Hill (population: 154), appeared in court Friday and pleaded no contest to a trespassing charge. The 22-year-old, who was wearing a button-down denim shirt and khaki shorts for his day in court, will have the charge expunged from his record if he stays out of trouble for one year.

However, while Vorsteveld did not dispute that he had trespassed, it's possible that the incident may not have been directly related to the 22-year-old songstress after all. Captain Shawn Lacey of Rhode Island’s Westerly Police Department told The Westerly Sun newspaper that there was no evidence that he had trespassed on Swift’s property before being found in the bushes on a nearby private road leading to the Watch Hill Lighthouse.

As for reports that he was trying to swim to Swift's property, Lacey said Vorsteveld could have tried to prior to his arrest, but there was no indication from sources, including Swift’s security, that any breach in security had occurred on the star's property.

And while the judge ordered Vorsteveld to stay away from the private property where he was arrested, he was only banned from Lighthouse Road, which is down the street from Swift's 5.25 acre property, not her actual residence, which is so fancy it has a name ― Harkness House.

Vorsteveld, who clarified in court that he lives in Vermont, not Illinois, as had been reported ― declined to comment on the case nor his Swift fandom before leaving in an awaiting taxi, according to The Westerly Sun. He also didn't elaborate why he was walking around the neighborhood at 2:15 a.m. on May 15 when he was arrested.

A call and email to a Westerly Police spokesperson have not been returned as of press time.

Whether or not Vorsteveld was in the Ocean State to see Swift, the star must not have been that spooked by the incident. She actually spent Memorial Day weekend at her new home ― and made time to hobnob with some celebrity guests.

Outfitted in her New England nautical best, Swift was snapped out and about with actress Hailee Steinfeld, 16, in Westerly over the weekend. In addition to that girl time, she had lunch at Olympia Tea Room in Watch Hill with a larger group which included Steinfeld, Lena Dunham, and Dunham’s guitarist boyfriend Jack Antonoff, along with Jessica Szohr, and her touring partner Ed Sheeran.
