The 21-year-old Nickelodeon star and singer, who currently plays her "iCarly" character on the spin-off "Sam & Cat," is grieving the death of her mother, Debra, who died after a long battle with breast cancer on Friday.
"Jennette has suffered an unimaginable loss," her rep told omg! in a statement. "Please respect her and her family's privacy at this time of mourning. She appreciates the love and support of her fans."
The younger McCurdy was close with her mom, and in 2011, she even penned an article for the Wall Street Journal explaining how her mother's 1995 diagnosis had affected her.
"There are people who believe that young actors on a TV series have it easy and that they never have a tough moment in their lives," she wrote. "You may be surprised to know that some of us actually do have to face some tribulations."
She detailed her mom's improbable remission and her 2010 relapse, when doctors discovered the disease had spread throughout Debra's body and to her brain.
"When she finally reached the 15 year cancer-free mark, I doubt it crossed any of our minds that her cancer would return. But it did," Jennette wrote.
"She can barely stand, yet she gets up before me in the morning so that she can make me a mug of hot chocolate," she continued. "I don't know how she does it, but she claims it's what makes her happy."
According to TMZ, Jennette has canceled her scheduled hosting duties at Nickelodeon's Worldwide Day of Play in NYC this weekend.
Heartfelt condolences to the family.
