Sad News: Kelly Clarkson's Dog Dies

Kelly Clarkson's got a lot to be happy about right now. In the past month, she's married Brandon Blackstock and released a holiday album, "Wrapped in Red," that's already a hit.

Sadly, though, she received some bad news this week. On Friday, she tweeted that one of her beloved dogs, Joplin, has passed away.

"My best friend died yesterday," the 31-year-old wrote. "Joplin was special. He fought his whole life to survive & now he can rest. I loved him."

The "Catch My Breath" singer, who still has dogs Security, Bear, and Cairo, introduced fans to Joplin just after bringing him home in May 2011. She quite accurately described the miniature Labradoodle as "adorable."

In January 2012, Clarkson explained just how panicked she was when Joplin disappeared for a short time near her property in Texas. The dog, who had always been "shy and skittish," she wrote in a letter to American Country Countdown, was startled by fireworks on New Year's Eve.

"I lost it (like a little girl) and started bawling," Clarkson wrote of when she discovered Joplin was missing. "Seriously, I was so dramatic (hard to believe, I know), but I don't have children and [my dogs] are my babies that I sleep with every night."

Clarkson searched for hours before she finally found Joplin running through a pond.

"I swear, I can't believe I'm admitting this but I ran through the shallow part of the pond ... yelling for him as if he were the last living thing on the planet," she shared. "Yes, I might be too attached to my dogs and highly sensitive, but I don't care. I love them!"

Last month, a smitten Clarkson reaffirmed her love for the little guy when she shared a snapshot of the two getting cuddly.

"I'm just gonna say it... he's my soulmate," she captioned the pic. "#joplin #sorrybrandon #hashtag."

The "American Idol" alum has been vocal about wanting to add a baby to the Blackstock brood soon, but do you think they'll get another dog, too?
