Ryan Phillippe Keeps His and Reese Witherspoon’s Kids Distracted in L.A. Following Arrest
Are you still in disbelief that Reese Witherspoon was arrested early Friday morning for disorderly conduct after her husband Jim Toth was arrested for suspicion of DUI? You're not alone.
While the Oscar winning actress is set to continue filming "The Good Lie" in Georgia (production will not be affected), her ex-husband Ryan Phillippe is keeping their two children distracted in Los Angeles. So, just what were they up to the weekend following Witherspoon's arrest?
Friday night the "Stop-Loss" actor was spotted out to dinner at Craig's in West Hollywood. However, onlookers tell omg! the father of three called it an early night since he had a busy day ahead with his kids.
While it's doubtful Phillippe was Witherspoon's one call from jail, her ex-husband must have been clued in early on about the situation for the sake of their kids (so that they wouldn't find out about her arrest on TV or Twitter). However, it was business as usual for Phillippe on Saturday.
The morning after Witherspoon was arrested, Phillippe was rooting on their son Deacon during a flag football game in the posh Brentwood neighborhood of L.A.
"Ryan was cheering on Deacon like he always does, nothing seemed out of the ordinary," an onlooker tells omg! about Phillippe's demeanor. Phillippe then spent the afternoon swimming and playing in Beverly Hills with Deacon, 9, and Ava, 13.
While many divorced couples would take an opportunity like this to bash their ex, sources tell omg! that Phillippe is doing no such thing.
"Ryan won't go there," one insider says. "He thinks she is a great mom. Their kids are their number one priority."
Witherspoon and Phillippe divorced after more than seven years of marriage in 2006. They have two kids together, and Witherspoon has one son, Tennessee James Toth (born September 2012), with new husband Jim Toth, while Phillippe has a daughter, Kailani Merizalde Phillippe Knapp (born July 2011), with ex-girlfriend Alexis Knapp.
While Phillippe is holding down the fort at home in L.A., Witherspoon has been in New York City. The Oscar winning actress was set to hit the talk show circuit to promote "Mud," but given the media attention surrounding her arrest, Witherspoon has pulled out of all upcoming promotional appearances. She did attend the film's premiere Sunday night, but skipped the after party.
So, where did Witherspoon end up instead? The "This Means War" actress and her CAA agent hubby were spotted out for drinks with pals Chelsea Handler and Cameron Diaz on Sunday night.
"Nobody was drunk -- it was pretty tame," a source tells Us Weekly of the group, who sipped on San Pellegrino instead. "They all seemed really happy. There was no indication that there was anything wrong."
Witherspoon issued a heartfelt apology over the weekend: read her full statement here.
