“The Queen has left the King Edward VII's Hospital having been admitted briefly as part of the assessment of symptoms of gastroenteritis,” an inflammation of the stomach sometimes caused by food poisoning, the Palace said in a statement on Monday afternoon.
The 86-year-old monarch first fell ill over the weekend, forcing her to cancel all her engagements for the coming week. Although she has seemingly been in good health – after all, this was her first hospitalization in a decade – her busy schedule remains quite demanding from someone of her age.
The AP reports that Elizabeth II is expected to be back at work next week.
King Edward VII's Hospital is the same place the Queen’s granddaughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, spent a few days in early December after suffering from extreme morning sickness. The Duchess and Prince William are expecting their first baby together in July.
