Paul Walker Autopsy Results: Actor Died From ‘Traumatic and Thermal Injuries’

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Department completed their autopsy Tuesday night in the death of Paul Walker, and released the results on Wednesday morning, concluding that the actor and his friend Roger Rodas died from traumatic injuries and burns.

The coroner's report formally identified Walker, 40, as the passenger, and Roger Rodas, 38, as the driver, in what was formally ruled for the first time as an "accident." According to the report, Rodas died of "multiple traumatic injuries" and Walker died of "combined effects of traumatic and thermal injuries." The injury occurred via "auto versus Fixed Object."

A toxicology report is still pending on both cases. The estimated completion time frame for toxicology will be 6-8 weeks.

Walker and Rodas died the afternoon of Saturday, Nov. 30, in Valencia, Calif., while driving a 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, following Walker's participation in a nearby charity event. He was on a Thanksgiving weekend hiatus from filming "Fast & Furious 7."

The Los Angeles Country Sheriff's Department is still looking at potential causes of the crash. Detective Jeff Maag told The Hollywood Reporter that he needs more time before making any public statements about what happened to the car in question.

"We're looking at probably, and hopefully, some time next week," he said. "I'm waiting for the crowds to clear so I can do a little bit more investigation at the scene. The fans should be allowed to mourn how they want to mourn. I think that's fair, and they'll probably be done next week."

He added that recovery of the car's "black box" — should it have one — would help in making a definitive determination. "I need to clean up some of the theories that are floating around — mechanical problems, blown tires, that type of thing. I don't suspect those things, but they are things I need to deal with before I release anything"

Also Wednesday morning, Universal Pictures, which produces the "Fast & Furious" franchise, released a statement regarding their decision to shut down production of the latest film for the time being.

"Right now, all of us at Universal are dedicated to providing support to Paul's immediate family and our extended 'Fast & Furious' family of cast, crew, and filmmakers," it read. "At this time we feel it is our responsibility to shut down production on 'Fast & Furious 7' for a period of time so we can assess all options available to move forward with the franchise. We are committed to keeping 'Fast & Furious' fans informed, and we will provide further information to them when we have it. Until then, we know they join us in mourning the passing of our dear friend Paul Walker."
