Nadya "Octomom" Suleman is currently being investigated for welfare fraud because she made more than the $119,000 maximum allowed in order to collect in the state of California, based on her number of children.
In fact, a source close to Octomom tells omg! that the 37-year-old earned "well over" a whopping $160,000 in 2012 – yes, you read that correctly! – thanks to her burgeoning porn and stripping career.
The L.A. County Department of Welfare Fraud Prevention and Investigation are currently looking into an allegation made last week that Octomom was abusing the system, and those close to her have been interviewed, including omg!’s source.
If WFP&I finds that she did lie about her income, Octomom could be prosecuted for welfare fraud, which is punishable by three years behind bars.
Suleman went back on welfare in early January, after being off of it for five months. At the time, it was reported that she was pulling in $1,800 a month for food, $1,000 in emergency cash, and Medi-Cal benefits for mental and dental health.
In February, Suleman – who went to rehab for 30 days in October for Xanax dependency – was investigated by the L.A. Department of Child and Family Services after a former nanny claimed the mom was abusing drugs and alcohol. None of her 15 children were removed from her home at that time.
