The "Jon & Kate Plus 8" reality star pair faced a nasty divorce, complete with a custody battle, a multi-million dollar lawsuit, and bankruptcy claims — all while America watched. But they haven't both come out of it unharmed.
Jon recently revealed that he has had a hard time finding work and is now employed as a waiter in Pennsylvania, and, quite surprisingly, Kate admits that she feels sorry for the guy. In fact, she even still loves him, in a way.
"Somebody once told me that if you feel sadness and empathy and pity for someone, the root of that is love," Kate says on Thursday's episode of "Bethenny."
While Kate doesn't mention having similar difficulties finding work, she does share her own cost-saving measures during the daytime talk show. "I use coupons, we don't wear the top brands," she says. "Those things to me really aren't overly important.”
While the mom certainly has her hands full with raising eight children, she has also found time to look back and reflect on her failed marriage.
"Divorce is divorce. When you're going through divorce, a lot of it you're looking back over the years, to see in your own mind what went wrong," the former reality star says. Referring to her marital problems being played out in the public eye, she adds, "I think it magnified it, caused it to come to light sooner. And looking back, those issues were always there and I feel like the person I married nearly overnight was not that person anymore."
