Justin Bieber Gets Blasted for Anne Frank Comment

Yikes!

On Friday, Justin Bieber paid a visit to the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam – the hiding place of the young Holocaust victim who notably detailed her life, from ages 13 to 15, in a diary.

But it wasn’t the singer’s visit that caused a commotion. Bieber, who took a private, after-hours tour of the house with some friends and his bodyguards, wrote a questionable message in the historic landmark's guestbook, which the organization posted on their Facebook page.

“Truly inspiring to be able to come here,” the 19-year-old wrote. “Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.”

The comment, a nod to the nickname many of the Canadian pop star’s fans go by, struck many as far too light for such a somber place. Over 1,000 people have commented on the Anne Frank House’s Facebook post since Saturday.

“She would’ve been a WHAT? That little idiot is way too full of himself. She’s an important historical figure so show some respect,” wrote Kevin Garcia Leon, whose comment has received 1,231 likes so far.

However, some also came to Bieber's defense. Heather Mirman wrote: “He is trying to say that he would’ve been proud to of had her as a fan because of her courage and the fact that she believed in good.”

This isn’t the first time Bieber has upset the public by appearing to not show respect to history. He caused a fuss when he was photographed meeting the Canadian prime minister in overalls last November.

And he's been in the headlines a lot this year for several other missteps, which you can get a quick recap of here.

A rep for the singer has not yet responded to request for comment about his trip to the Anne Frank House.

What do you think? Did he step over the line?
