Justin Bieber Fans Urged to Cut Themselves Over His Alleged Pot Use

Justin Bieber is having a drama-filled year ... and we’re only a week into 2013.

After the “Beauty and a Beat” singer was caught on camera holding what appeared to be marijuana, pranksters started a disturbing ad campaign called “Cut for Bieber,” urging young female fans of the 18-year-old singer to self-harm in protest of his alleged drug use.

The disgusting prank all started with a post on a message board. "Let's start a cut yourself for bieber campaign,” a twisted user posted on 4chan. “Tweet a bunch of pics of people cutting themselves and claim we did it because bieber was smoking weed. See if we can get some little girls to cut themselves."

Purported “fans” of the singer then uploaded photos of slashed wrists (some real, some fake) and the campaign went viral. They also created fake Twitter accounts, pretending to be young girls who had harmed themselves to stop Bieber’s drug use. By Monday afternoon it was trending on Twitter with the hashtags #CutForBieber and #CuttingForBieber.

The backlash was immediate and Miley Cyrus was one of the ones to blast the sick joke, retweeting a post that said, “#cutforbieber? Cutting is NOT something to joke about. There are people who are actually suffering from self-harm, this is so disrespectful.”

Bieber didn’t address the drama on Twitter himself – but he’s had his hands full doing damage control as of late. On January 1, a paparazzo who was photographing Bieber’s Ferrari was struck and killed by another car on Interstate 405 in Los Angeles. The photographer was reportedly on the verge of capturing a big Bieber story – reportedly that the teen heartthrob was smoking marijuana with friends – but it turned out the Canadian crooner wasn’t even in the car at the time. Rather, it was being driven by his BFF, Lil Twist.

On January 4, more drug allegations surfaced. TMZ posted photos of Bieber holding what appeared to be a hand-rolled joint while hanging out with friends, including Lil Twist, in a Newport Beach, California, hotel room. While the singer didn’t admit to drug use, he tweeted about "trying to be better" and how he’s "growing and learning" each day.

For now, Bieber can throw himself into his work. On Wednesday, he heads back out on tour for the rest of the month. He also hinted on Twitter that an appearance on “Saturday Night Live” is in his future, teasing, “Maybe im hosting and performing on SNL...maybe. :)”
