Dogs really do make the best friends, as Jennifer Love Hewitt can attest.
The star is seven months pregnant with her first child with fiancé Brian Hallisay, and while she’s more than excited about their new bundle of joy coming soon, she admitted in the Fall 2013 issue of Modern Dog magazine that her dog Duke also has a very special place in her heart.
The 34-year-old actress said she went through a very dark time in her life after losing her mom suddenly from complications due to cancer in June of last year – and confessed that it was her rescue dog that actually saved her.
"I've had a million moments where I felt I just needed to be rescued, and I've had to do that for myself," the mommy-to-be said. "It's been very healing for me. I feel I really came out of a fog. He's lifted me up."
Hewitt's pooch — her first! — is an adorable mix of an Australian Shepherd, German Shepherd, and Catahoula Hound that she found through her "Client List" co-star Elaine Hendrix. And apparently Duke has already taught her so much in life. "There's a real friendship. I've learned commitment, dedication. I've learned what abandonment can look like. He was skittish and shaky and unsure and to watch as he becomes more confident and to see that transformation and how good it can be," the actress revealed.
