It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since unarmed teen Trayvon Martin was shot and killed by Florida neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman. Jamie Foxx and people from all over flocked to Union Square in New York City Tuesday night for a candlelight vigil, marking the exact minute the 17-year-old was shot.
The “Django Unchained” actor gave an emotional speech during the ceremony, remembering the moment he met Trayvon’s mother, Sybrina Fulton, at the NAACP Image Awards earlier this month. Foxx said he admired Sybrina and Trayvon’s father Tracy Martin for being so strong, telling them, “In the midst of all of the swirling and all of the talking points and people standing on different sides, you stood on the side of being a mother. You stood on the side of being a father.”
