NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino has become the latest famous married man to admit that he fathered a child out of wedlock.
The former Miami Dolphins quarterback – who has six adult children with wife Claire – is also the father of a 7-year-old daughter, the result of his affair with a former CBS production assistant named Donna Savattere. “This is a personal and private matter. I take full responsibility both personally and financially for my actions now as I did then. We mutually agreed to keep our arrangement private to protect all parties involved,” he said in a statement to the New York Post on Wednesday.
He also confirmed that he and Claire plan to remain together despite his infidelity. “My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years and have six children together,” he told the Post. “And we continue to be a strong and loving family.”
According to sources the Post spoke with, Marino – who has reportedly been in touch with his daughter – agreed to pay Savattere millions of dollars to care for the girl, named Chloe, and Savattere agreed to move to Texas. She has since remarried and had another child.

In recent years, it’s been politicians who have been rocked by scandals of illegitimate children. Senator and former vice presidential candidate John Edwards was forced to admit he had fathered a child with campaign videographer Ryelle Hunter while his wife, the late Elizabeth Edwards, was battling cancer. And, of course, in 2011 Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed that an affair with the family housekeeper had resulted in a son, now 15, who was born right around the time wife Maria Shriver had given birth to the couple’s youngest son, Christopher.
Both couples split after the revelations.
