Chloe Moretz (WireImage)Is there anything sweeter than a starlet turning 16?
Chloe Moretz – who will have to wait until Sunday to officially call herself a 16-year-old – shared her celebration with the 10th anniversary of the launch of Teen Vogue at a bash held at Aeropostale in Times Square on Thursday.
Surrounded by pink-and-silver candies and other treats, Chloe told omg! about her excitement – and her fears – about learning to drive.
“Of course, I’m so excited,” she said. “I’ve literally just applied for my permit so I’m a little behind. But probably by September I’ll have my license.”
Despite her eagerness – and the “Kick Ass” roles she typically plays – she thinks she’ll be a little more tentative behind the wheel.
“I’m a terrified driver,” she confessed. “Especially going through the driver’s ed stuff because they give you all these things on fatalities and all this scary stuff and I’m like, ‘Mom, I really don’t know if I want to drive. Maybe I’ll just walk.’”
Quite a few celebrities were on hand to wish Moretz a happy birthday and some even brought gifts. Julianne Moore, for instance, arrived toting a big shopping bag from Marc Jacobs filled with surprises for her “Carrie” co-star. The on-screen mother-daughter duo greeted each other with a huge embrace before posing for pictures.
Moretz, who was wearing Chanel topped with an Aeropostale jacket, also received a surprise in the form of her own “guilty pleasure” – Jedward, the Irish pop duo made up of identical twins John and Edward Grimes who are gearing up to make a splash in the U.S., was in the house. And they didn’t arrive empty-handed either.
“We got Chloe a 1955 vintage Marilyn Monroe calendar – it’s really, really cool, mint condition. It’s like really old,” they explained. (Yes, they. For the uninitiated, Jedward are truly identical and they finish each other’s sentences.) “And we got her this picture taken in 1944 before she was going by Marilyn Monroe, when she was Norma Jean. The reason why we did that is because we follow her on Instagram and she always tweets pictures of Marilyn Monroe and we thought that would be a really cool present to get her. We’re really excited.”
Victoria Justice, Jake T. Austin, and “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland were also among the many in attendance to honor the young star and Teen Vogue magazine and see a special performance by Kate Nash.
