Burning Question: Does Kim Kardashian Really Deserve Walk of Fame Star (Like Kanye Says)?

Kanye West is angry that girlfriend Kim Kardashian isn't getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Why is she being frozen out?

Because every reality star is being frozen out.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame — that iconic stretch that attracts thousands of gawping tourists and drooling homeless yearly — honors celebrities who have a long track record in one of five categories: radio, theater, motion pictures, music, and TV. To qualify for Walk of Fame consideration, a celebrity must also have won some other awards, such as Grammys or Oscars, and have a history of charitable giving.

Yes, Kim Kardashian entertains us via TV. And she gives to charity. But according to Ana Martinez, spokeswoman for the Walk and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce that runs it, that's not enough to throw a Kardashian her own chunk of sidewalk brass.

"We don't have reality stars on the Walk of Fame," she tells me. "We don't have a category for it. We're happy to consider reality stars once they get nominated for, or win, an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar.

"We'll consider them when they're legitimate actors or singers."

For the record, some Hollywood Walk honorees are not performers; George Eastman has a star for his invention of roll film, for example. But that's a technicality. The Chamber really, really isn't interested in bending its rules for Kim, and all the ranting from Kanye West isn't going to change that.

"I know he loves her, and it's all very sweet," Martinez tells me. "But she doesn't qualify."

And speaking of rules, here's one you should know. Celebrities also have to be nominated before they can be considered for a star. The Hollywood Chamber gets around 200 to 300 such nominations a year, mostly from publicists on behalf of clients ... and none of them, Martinez tells me, has ever — ever — been a reality star.

Let me say that again, because it bears repeating: Kim Kardashian isn't eligible for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But her team hasn't exactly tried to change that status quo, either.

"I hate to say it, but a lot of people just don't like like her," Martinez tells me. "No one has ever nominated her."

So Kanye West may want his baby mama to have a place on the Walk of Fame, but he may be the only one in the Kardashian camp to think that way.

In fact, for the record, some members of the Kardashian family seem to harbor no ill will toward the Walk of Fame folk; earlier this week, the Chamber honored Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds with his first star. Among the folks who showed up to cheer him on, Martinez tells me: Khloé Kardashian and Kris Jenner.
