In a new profile from GQ magazine, accompanied by a super sexy Terry Richardson shoot (which caused a major stir on the Internet Wednesday), Mrs. Jay-Z says that, before having one-year-old Blue Ivy, being onstage was the closest she came to free.

“I love my job, but it’s more than that: I need it,” she tells the mag. “Because before I gave birth, it was the only time in my life, all throughout my life, that I was lost.”
By “lost” the 31-year-old singer means disconnected from the pangs of the road to superstardom: incessant rehearsal, sacrificing her youth, and overcoming the shy schoolgirl from Houston, Texas, to become Sasha Fierce.
