"Playing a show before thousands of people is a highly unnatural state," he tells the magazine, "and when I get on the mat to do an hour of yoga before the show, I come out physically relaxed."

And while the 32-year-old definitely benefits from yoga's meditative and relaxation properties, he admits a big part of the draw is the way the poses makes his body look -- something that someone with that many tattoos must pay attention to!

"Weights made my neck thick, and I would be like, 'I'm turning into a monster!' Yoga takes what you have and molds and sculpts it, which is a much more natural way to look and feel," Levine says. "I don't like how people bulls*** about how yoga is not about vanity."

Behind every yoga fanatic is usually a pro instructor who got the journey started. For Levine, that person is New York-based yogi Chad Dennis. Just months after their first session together, Dennis began joining Maroon 5 on tour, where he puts the lead singer through daily on-the-road routines … often difficult ones that pay off in the end.
"He'll take me on a friggin' obstacle course of yoga." All of it, Levine says, adds up to "an investment in happiness for the rest of my life."
