Lady Gaga: I gained 25 pounds — and I don’t feel bad about it

Lady Gaga has put on a few pounds — and she says it's her father's fault.

The itty bitty singer is known for her skimpy costumes, so when she took the stage in Amsterdam earlier this week, there was a buzz surrounding her slightly fuller figure. And let us emphasize slightly — it wasn't extreme, but considering she walks around the stage nearly naked, it didn't go unnoticed. Well, Gaga isn't one to shy away from any topics, so she has already spoken out about putting on some extra pounds prior to her tour.

"I'm dieting right now, because I gained, like, 25 pounds," the 26-year-old "Born This Way" singer told radio host Elvis Duran from Z100 in New York City. "And you know I really don't feel bad about it, not even for a second. I have to be on such a strict diet constantly. It's hard because it's a quite vigorous show, so I tend to bulk up, get muscular, and I really don't like that. So I'm trying to find a new balance."

Gaga went on to say that her father, Joe Germanotta, is to blame for her weight gain. Earlier this year Papa Gaga teamed up with chef Art Smith to open up the restaurant Joanne Trattoria on Manhattan's Upper West Side. The songstress indulged in some great meals there during her time off. "I love eating pasta and pizza," Gaga said. "I'm a New York Italian girl. That's why I have been staying out of New York. My father opened a restaurant. It's so amazing. ... It's so freaking delicious, but I'm telling you I gain five pounds every time I go in there. So my dad wants me to eat at the restaurant, and I'm, like, I've got to go where I can drink green juice."

Green juice is definitely more her style as she's said her favorite foods include tofu and hummus. And she's often talked about her vigorous exercise schedule. (Remember earlier in the summer when she went to back-to-back spin classes and tweeted about how pop stars don't eat?) Typically she maintains a fitness regimen created by celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak, which includes five workouts a week for at least 25 minutes a day. That's in addition to whatever she does while performing. She also loves yoga, specifically Bikram and hot power yoga, and practices at local studios when she travels. "Yoga makes me feel like I can do anything," Gaga has said.

The funny thing about Gaga's weight gain making headlines is that her weight loss has been just as buzzy. Just three months ago, her pal Elton John talked about Gaga's "frail" frame in The Guardian. "I look at Gaga and I think, 'How does she do it?'" said John, who selected Gaga to be the godmother of his son. "I talk to her mum and dad about it. They worry. She is frail, and she doesn't eat when she should do, and she's a girl, and it's tougher for a girl."

It is tougher for a girl, but it seems Gaga has things under control.
