Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagicGrammy-winning musician Jewel has a lot on her plate these days — she's a mentor on the new season of singing competition show "The Voice," just released a kids' album, has an upcoming children's book due out this fall, and is mom to 9-month-old son Kase. But as for what's literally on her plate, the 37-year-old recently shared her healthy eating habits and workout strategies with Self.com.
"I tend to reach for proteins because they sustain me longer — like a protein and a fat, so some nuts or some string cheese or a slice of some other cheese that has full fat," she explains. "That usually holds me over really well."

But what does she consider her absolute healthiest habit? Making sure she downs some vegetable juice every single day. "It's really alkalizing and full of nutrients, which is really important. I like to have low-glycemic juices so I don't add a ton of fruits in there," the singer says. "I tend to do more green things like celery and cucumbers, spinach, and some carrot and maybe beets."
Though Jewel's a busy working mom, the Alaskan-born beauty, who's been married to rodeo cowboy Ty Murray for almost three years, makes sure to get her workouts in, and if she's pressed for time, she'll focus on her core.
"Some people have naturally fit abs but that's not me. So I have to really work at them, and then maybe my butt if I have time," Jewel reveals. "I love side planks for my obliques or I'll do a bunch of different exercises every day just to keep it mixed up and keep me from getting bored or plateauing."

Despite her dizzying scheduling, the "You Were Meant for Me" songstress insists that squeezing in time for herself — even just a few minutes every day — is important and helps keep her grounded.
"You learn to enjoy little moments. Sometimes I'll have five minutes and I'll go out on the front porch and take a few deep breaths and look how beautiful the day is," says Jewel. "It helps to get your mind out of the 'I have to do this, I have to do that,' and remember what a beautiful day it is, how lucky you are and go back at it."
