Demi Lovato makes a wish at her 18th birthday bash in NYC. - Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty ImagesAlthough it's Demi Lovato's 18th birthday today (August 20), the Disney star decided to give her family a special gift: a Mediterranean-style home just outside of Los Angeles.

"For me to give [that] to my family on my birthday, that was the best birthday present," the young actress -- who plans to live on the property in a guest house -- told People. "It's got pretty much everything you could possibly imagine in it. It's the most beautiful, homey-feeling house. The pool has a water slide ... I love it."

When asked what the biggest misperception is of her, the "Catwoman" star responds, "That I am this brooding, twisted, lovesick person who just can't get it right in life. Every story about me is so heavy and dramatic. That's not how I do life. But that's the impression people have, and that's what keeps getting reiterated. As if I'm still stuck in all the muck of the past. And I am so not."

Still, it wouldn't be a complete surprise if the two turned out to be more than friends.

A source told JustJared.com that "Joe has been trying to date Ashley for a while now, but it looks like it's never going to work out for him." Judging from these pics, perhaps it will.

I don't know about you, but after a while I get sick of watching shows about beautiful people. Honestly, how many more top models does this world need? Thankfully, The CW is launching a new summer reality series aimed at us regular folk called "Plain Jane." The program is hosted by British fashion expert, Louise Roe, whom you may recognize from her stint on "The City" last season. (Admittedly, Louise is a pretty attractive woman herself, but at least she's using her beauty background for good!)

Each of the show's six episodes will transform one supposed "Plain Jane" from the inside out. In addition to receiving a head-to-toe style makeover, which includes confidence-building exercises and a new wardrobe, each "Jane" will get a chance to make her romantic dreams come true by revealing her fabulous new look to an unsuspecting crush.
