The symbol of the Academy Awards, of course, is the Oscar statue. And the acclaimed actors who have won the coveted prize over the years would probably say the trophy is priceless, but how much is the iconic trophy really worth? The value of the 24-karat gold-plated statue is tied with the price of gold, which is currently about $1,600 per ounce. According to The Hollywood Reporter, that means that each of this year’s 50 statuettes from manufacturer R.S. Owens is worth about $900. That’s a whopping total of $45,000 in Oscar gold for 2013.

Mo’Nique’s Oscar-winning performance in 2009’s “Precious” put her on the map in Hollywood, and now she’s using her star power to inspire her fans to lose weight. The comedienne spent her career embracing her big girl status, often saying bigger is better, but when her health became a factor, Mo'Nique made the decision to lose the weight. She’s down to 217, after dropping 45 pounds and she’s not done yet!

The 45-year-old seems to be taking a break from the spotlight since her talk show ended last year, but she’s still connected to her fans. She’s now sharing her weight loss journey on Twitter in order to show off all her hard work.

“Amour” actress Emmanuelle Riva is nominated for Best Actress at this year’s Academy Awards, making her, at 85 years old, the oldest woman to be nominated in the category in Oscar history. And, if she takes home the statue this Sunday, she could break a record for the oldest person to ever win an Academy Award. Oscar Sunday also happens to be a very special day for Emmanuelle since it’s her 86th birthday. We can’t think of a better birthday gift for her than to take home the gold and break the record!

And while Friedland may work for some of the best actors in the biz, it’s safe to say that his biggest client is The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
