  • Cyndi Lauper reveals uncle died in Hurricane Sandy

    Cyndi Lauper (Robin Merchant/Getty Images)While cleanup efforts are well underway, those affected by Hurricane Sandy's devastation are still trying to get their lives back in order, with millions of dollars in property damage, much of the Jersey Shore washed away, and many in the Northeast still without power. For some, however, the superstorm took much more. It also claimed 109 lives nationwide.

    This week, Cyndi Lauper revealed her uncle was one of those who died. "I lost my Uncle George in the hurricane," Lauper said on Monday at Lenox Hill Hospital's Autumn Ball in Manhattan, according to the New York Post.

    Her uncle, 90-year-old George Stathis, was found dead inside his home in Rockaway, Queens, a waterfront area that was hit especially hard by Sandy, five days after the storm.

So when it comes to what the 40-year-old actress would say she likes to snack on, you'd probably assume she'd push something healthy, like yogurt, almonds, or baby carrots, right? Wrong.

    In a new interview with Elle UK, Diaz admits that not only is her favorite snack food something that's completely unhealthy, it's actually, well, kind of gross: pork scratchings.

    "Oh, that's my favorite snack in the whole world!" she says in the magazine's December issue.

Pollan also knew it was time to make some changes to the home, but couldn't pull the trigger until recently. "Our tastes changed, but we held off redecorating — it seemed like a big undertaking," Pollan explains in the December issue. "Something would rip, and I'd say, 'Just wait.' The paint would peel. I'd say, 'Just wait.'"

    After losing more than 50 pounds a few years back, celebrity chef Alton Brown not only remained in the culinary industry, he became an even more frequent contributor to the Food Network. In addition to his now-defunct show "Good Eats," he signed on as host of the pro competition series "The Next Iron Chef," which starts its fifth season on November 4, and earlier this year served as a dedicated coach to contestants on the most recent installment of "Food Network Star." That means that everywhere he turns, there's food. But while Brown, 50, has kept his eating habits in check, he admits it's not easy.

    "Yeah, I lost a lot of weight, I've kept most of it off, but it's still a constant, day-to-day battle for me," he tells omg!. And there are certain rules that Brown now lives by. "Never sit down to a meal really hungry, because if you sit down really hungry, by the time your brain even realizes you've eaten, you've cleared a plate twice the size of what you needed. I try to never let myself get that hungry," he shares. "You've got to learn that there's such a thing as a spoonful of ice cream. I wouldn't have believed that at one time. To me, a Ben and Jerry's carton was a single serving."

  • George Clooney and Abe Lincoln: Cousins!

    George Clooney and Abraham Lincoln are distant cousins. (Getty Images/Everett Collection)He’s already an A-list movie star, and now, it turns out, he’s also got a presidential bloodline. According to Ancestry.com, George Clooney and the 16th president are distant cousins – half-first cousins five times removed to be exact – and are related through Lucy Hanks, Lincoln’s maternal grandmother.

    The 51-year-old isn’t the only celebrity to be related to the famous leader. Earlier this year, Tom Hanks announced that he too is a distant cousin of Lincoln’s, on Lincoln’s mother Nancy Hanks’ side of the family.

    The genealogy website said it discovered the Clooney-Lincoln connection after researching more than three centuries of the former president’s family tree in preparation for the upcoming film, “Lincoln.” Perhaps if Steven Spielberg had known about the familial relationship he would have cast Clooney instead of Daniel Day Lewis for the lead role in his biopic? The staunch Democrat may not have wanted to play a Republican anyway.

    Urban was in France with daughters Sunday Rose, 4, and 22-month-old Faith as well as wife Nicole Kidman, who's there shooting her upcoming film "Grace of Monaco," in which she stars as Grace Kelly.
