The way Katie Holmes carefully plotted her split from Tom Cruise could easily be a Hollywood thriller. The actress “surprised” her husband with a phone call asking for a divorce while he was thousands of miles away in Iceland, shooting his upcoming sci-fi flick "Oblivion," on June 29, then she managed to wrestle away custody of Suri, 6, from him just 11 days later. A report released on Tuesday details just how she went about her secret plan – she used a disposable cell phone.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a friend of Holmes provided her with the throwaway device so she could talk to her New York City-based lawyers without Cruise, 50, or his people knowing what she was up to. Now, yet another report, a People magazine story released on Wednesday, divulges further details on how Holmes caught her husband of five years off guard by meticulously plotting her divorce plans ahead

  • Sofia Vergara's rep denies engagement

Future Mr. and Mrs. Loeb. (WireImage)Forget a birthday cake for her 40th birthday. Sofia Vergara got something much sweeter from her on-again beau Nick Loeb: a diamond ring. Although her rep denies the rock is an actual engagement ring "as of today," multiple reports are claiming Loeb, a Florida-based politician and businessman, popped the question while celebrating her milestone birthday in Mexico on Monday. One source tells omg! that he got down on one knee at the Mayan archaeological ruins of Chichen Itza in front of her friends and family who were also on the trip.

After the supposed proposal, everyone headed back to the Rosewood Mayakoba resort, where they continued the revelry with Vergara’s “Modern Family” castmates Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, and Sarah Hyland. In fact, the secret engagement was first blabbed when her friend Fernando Fiore, who once starred with her on “Fuera de Serie,” tweeted a photo from her party – and everyone zeroed in on the huge diamond ring on her left hand. Just before, he made Read More »from Sofia Vergara's rep denies engagement

The most important one: the battle over their 6-year-old daughter Suri, of whom the actress requested sole custody in her June 29 filing. According to People magazine, both Cruise and Holmes agreed that Suri “should live primarily with her mother in New York City with generous visitation by her father.” Adds a source, “They both love their daughter and Tom thinks she should be with her mother … Neither one of them wanted this to be hashed out in public."

Holmes and Cruise. (WireImage)Well, that was fast. • Charlie Sheen claims he gave Winona Ryder her stage name

Ryder and Sheen. (Splash News/Stefanie Keenan/Getty Images)Charlie Sheen has made a lot of preposterous claims in his day – mostly about winning, warlocks, and trolls – but his latest isn’t so out there. In an interview with the sports entertainment show “CenterStage” that will air today, the “Anger Management” star revealed that he is the one who came up with Winona Ryder’s stage name. "We were listening to the Doors, to 'Riders on the Storm,’” explains Sheen, who starred with Ryder in 1986’s “Lucas,” her film debut. “[Winona's] real name is Horowitz. And I said, 'You know, I'm thinking Winona Ryder sounds cool,' and she was like, 'Yeah!'" But although Ryder made quite a name, so to speak, for herself with memorable roles in “Beetlejuice,” “Little Women,” and “Mermaids,” the 46-year-old actor says she has never recognized him for his help. “[She] never, never gave me credit to this day!" he added.

Maybe it’s because Sheen’s version of the story isn’t true. Ryder, now 40, has always maintained that her stage name is taken from Mitch Ryder,

  • Brad Pitt’s mother pens pro-Mitt Romney, anti-gay marriage op-ed letter

Brad with his mom Jane. (Getty Images)The holidays might be a little awkward for the Pitt family. Brad Pitt’s mother Jane wrote an op-ed letter that was published in the Springfield News-Leader on July 3, and in it, the grandmother of the six Jolie-Pitt children talked about her support of Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and opposition of gay marriage – an issue that is near and dear to her famous son’s heart.

Mrs. Pitt’s letter was in response to a June 15 piece in the newspaper, in which Richard Stoecker questioned voting for Romney in the election because he is a Mormon. Pitt called on her fellow Christians to cast their vote for the Republican because, despite their difference in religion, he is “a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality.” She added that anyone who votes for his opponent, who she refers to by his full name Barack Hussein Obama, is going along with someone who “did not hold a public ceremony to

  • Why Tom Cruise insisted on calling Katie Holmes ‘Kate’

Tom and Katie. (Hall/Pena/PacificCoastNews.com)Katie Holmes has not only reclaimed her life now that she’s filed for divorce from Tom Cruise – she’s also taking back her name. Ever since the two first got together in 2005, the “Mission Impossible” star has insisted on referring to his wife as “Kate,” even though neither her friends nor her family has ever called her that. And it clearly was a name Holmes herself did not identify with because she never went by it professionally, despite her husband’s consistent use of it every time he mentioned her publicly. In fact, in her statement announcing the split, Holmes’ lawyer said, “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family.” Cruise’s response? “Kate has filed for divorce.”

It first began in April 2006, when Holmes, now 33, was still pregnant with Suri, but not yet married to Cruise. During an interview with All Headline News, he explained, "Katie is a young girl’s name. Her name is Kate now – she’s a child-bearing woman." At the time, it was also reported that

  • Alec Baldwin quits Twitter again

Baldwin. ((Turgeon/BrownSplash News)Just two days after becoming a married man, Alec Baldwin has ended his relationship with Twitter. The “30 Rock” actor tweeted, “It’s been fun,” on Monday before suspending his @AlecBaldwin account and deleting all his previous activity (his Alec Baldwin Foundation Twitter page is still active). This is not the first time Baldwin, 54, has pulled the plug on the social media site. In December, his Twitter page went dark after he ranted about American Airlines following Words With Friends-gate, when he refused to stop playing the game as the plane attempted to take off. As of late, Baldwin has used the site to complain about pretty much everything from the paparazzi to the media.

So then how will the curmudgeon get things off his chest? Don’t worry, Baldwin still has his biweekly podcast on WNYC, called “Here’s the Thing,” in which he has guests like David Letterman and Kathleen Turner on to discuss politics, pop culture, and most recently, the nation’s addiction to sugar. But there’s

Holmes and Cruise were once so lovey-dovey. ( Eric Charbonneau/WireImage)Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing after five years of marriage. The actress’ attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, says in a statement to People: “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest."

Soon after Holmes' announcement, Cruise released his own statement on the split. "Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children," his rep tells People."Please allow them their privacy to work this out."

Holmes filed in New York on Thursday, and according to TMZ, she is seeking sole custody and "primary residency custody" of Suri, 6, as well as a "suitable amount" of child support. The site also reports that the couple has a prenup. Together, they are worth a reported $275 million, with Cruise earning the bulk of that.

  • Kelly Osbourne admits to alcohol-induced breakdown on plane, blames it on brother Jack’s MS diagnosis

Osbourne. (Splash News)So much for being sober. It was reported earlier this week that Kelly Osbourne – who claimed in 2010 that she no longer drank after going to rehab for painkillers the year before – was spotted downing four to five alcoholic beverages on a June 19 flight from Los Angeles to Atlanta. According to the report, Ozzy and Sharon’s daughter was so drunk, she had to be helped off the plane by an assistant. In an interview with RadarOnline, Osbourne, 27, comes completely clean. “I don’t think it’s fair for me to lie,” she says. “I’m not going to say I didn’t do something when I did it.”

So then why did she do it? According to the “Fashion Police” star, before she boarded the flight, a man came up to her to express his concern for her brother Jack, who recently revealed he’s battling multiple sclerosis. The man said he too has a brother with the disease and he directed Osbourne to a website for more information. “On the plane I started looking at the website,” she explains. “It described how
