Instead of trick-or-treating, this is what Justin Bieber did on Halloween: The teen superstar went to a Barnes and Noble to promote his new book "First Step 2 Forever: My Story," and he wore these nerdy black-frame glasses while doing so. He was obviously inspired by another famous Justin.

What was Bieber trying to say with these specs? Let's break it down:

• He is cooler than us. So he can get away with anything. Obviously.
• He wants to look brainy, too. And with these oversized glasses, he could be mistaken for Harry Potter in the boy wizard's second year at Hogwarts.
• He wants to distance himself from his pretty-boy persona. Witness the backdrop of soulful Bieber faces he is standing against - and another one, on the cover of the book! Which is going to sell like crazy, you know it. But since Bieber is so naturally cool, he must be slightly embarrassed at the over-the-top pop-bubblegum-ness of it all. If there was some sort of checklist for achieving female celebrity icon status, Taylor Swift would have most of the boxes checked off. She's had artistic success, a movie cameo, A-List boyfriends, a scandal of massive proportions (that involved another celebrity, to boot), and a newly minted Madame Tussaud's wax figure made in her image. But, until now, she has been missing one element all megastars must have: the fragrance.

Like Britney, Mariah and Beyonce have done before her, Taylor has inked a deal to develop her own scent. The country star will work with Elizabeth Arden on the fragrance, which does not yet have a name.

"I have always loved how fragrance can shape a memory... the way certain scents remind you of events and people that are imprinted in your thoughts," she said in a statement. "Lately I've been having fun experimenting with combining some of my favorite scents."

This is great news for people who love remembering things and also enjoy the smell of expensive wood.

Kate Gosselin is brandishing her brand-new bikini bod on the cover of People magazine.

The 35-year-old mother of eight also shows off her hard-bodied physique in a photo spread inside the magazine's latest issue. She was photographed amid the surf and sand of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where she traded her seemingly ubiquitous scowl for a glowing smile.

How'd Gosselin get to look so good? She credits four months of pushing herself to the brink with rigorous daily runs, toning up without the help of a personal trainer, quick-fix diet or plastic surgery.

The reality TV mom (and tabloid target), who had a tummy tuck in 2006, says her abs are tighter now than they were post-operation. She tells the magazine, "This is not what my stomach looked like after my tummy tuck. That only got rid of the skin. It didn't build muscle or give me definition or burn off fat. I had to do that all on my own."

She dismisses rumors of Botox and further surgical enhancement.
