Lady Gaga on the cover of Vogue's September issue. (Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott/Vogue)Lady Gaga is synonymous with wild style, so it's only fitting that she's made it on to the cover of the ultimate fashion bible, Vogue, twice in the last year and a half. Front and center on the magazine's 120th anniversary issue, the over-the-top pop star appears with a bigger-than-life look, including sky-high hair and an angular, mermaid-style fuchsia dress that looks like it was torn from designer Marc Jacob's sketch book.
Gaga had her own ideas about who she resembled in the extravagant ensemble. "Who else sees me channeling @RuPaul on the COVER of VOGUE." she wrote on Twitter (where she has 28 million followers) on Thursday. "If only I was as fierce as you bitch. I did try to come for you with that weave."
But the person most impressed by Lady Gaga in Vogue seemed to be, well, Lady Gaga. "AHHH! The Vogue Express dropped off the SEPTEMBER ISSUE yesterday morning. IM A COVER GIRL, and ITS FAB! Can't wait to show u tonight!" she tweeted on Wednesday.

Inside the magazine, the Mother Monster goes au naturel (other than a giant hat, of course) and shared the logistics of making her concert tour, the Born This Way Ball, as Gaga-themed as possible: "We were talking about putting the show together, and I said, OK, what if I was someone's grandma and I was going to a concert tonight. How would I know that it was a Gaga show?'" she says in the interview. "And we all just sort of looked at each other and said, 'The meat dress.' "
The "Paparazzi" songstress, 26, also reveals why she does what she does, and yes, it's all for the benefit of her Little Monsters: "I don't really make records for people to listen to and go, 'Wow, she's a genius.' I'd really like you to order a drink, maybe kiss the person you came with that evening, or rediscover something about your past that makes you feel even more brave."
The September issue of Vogue hits newsstands on August 21.
