Jennifer Lawrence Worried if ‘Hunger Games’ Was ‘Worth Changing My Life For’

Even though she was nominated for an Academy Award last year, the name Jennifer Lawrence likely elicits a "who?" when mentioned. But come March 23, when "The Hunger Games" hit theaters, the world will definitely know her name and her face — and that's what has her slightly worried. "I knew from reading the books that I loved 'The Hunger Games,'" the 21-year-old actress tells Glamour in its April issue. "I just didn't know if it was worth changing my life for. I'm at a peaceful place right now. The people who used to ignore me at parties, now they're nice to me and kissing my ass. But nobody's staked outside my house. I wanted to make sure that when I said yes, I wouldn't regret it. And I don't regret it. I would have said no because I was scared, and then I would have been that bitter actress telling my grandkids, 'I'm the one that turned it down.'"

But that doesn't mean that Lawrence thought turning the beloved book series into a movie was a good idea initially. Before she was up for the role of heroine Katniss Everdeen, the actress jokes that she snickered at the thought. "When I heard they were making the movie, I was like, 'Oh, that's nice — they're going to ruin another great book.' But then I met Gary [Ross, the director], and he was unbelievable and brilliant and genius."

Taking the next big step in her career may come with more unwanted attention — just like Kristen Stewart gets for playing Bella in the "Twilight" series — but it also comes with perks, like being able to afford pricey snacks in the minibar at hotels. "When we were kids, we would never open the minibar," says the Kentucky native. "$6 Snickers bar? But the other day I was in a hotel and I was staring at a Snickers bar, and I finally just ate it. Then it was like something in me snapped. I opened all these drinks. I thought: I can do it now. Now I'm all grown-up. I can eat things from the minibar."

12 Secret Signs He's Into You

But unlike a lot of other Hollywood actresses who fret about their weight, Lawrence has no eater's remorse. In fact, she doesn't even diet, and exercising is more of a chore and just part of her job description rather than a passion. "I hate saying, 'I like exercising,'" she tells Glamour. "I want to punch people who say that in the face. But it's nice being in shape for a movie, because they basically do it all for you. It's like, 'Here's your trainer. This is what you can eat.' I don't diet. I do exercise! But I don't diet. You can't work when you're hungry, you know?"
