Demi Moore Never Imagined Being Called ‘Too Thin’

Cedric Buchet/Harper's BazaarRight after Demi Moore's announcement last fall that she was separating from husband of six years Ashton Kutcher, the media began focusing on something other than Kutcher's reported infidelities, the moving trucks at their home, and the couple's separate appearances. What started making headlines was the fact that Moore was looking painfully thin. In the February issue of Harper's Bazaar, the perennially petite Moore admits that, indeed, she's become seriously skinny lately. But she's accepted how she looks, even if the public hasn't, she tells the mag, "and that includes not just my weight but all of the things that come with your changing body as you age to now experiencing my body as extremely thin -- thin in a way that I never imagined somebody would be saying to me, 'You're too thin, and you don't look good,' " the 49-year-old actress says.

Like many women, getting to a state of "acceptance" about her body image wasn't easy. "I have had a love-hate relationship with my body," she explains. "When I'm at the greatest odds with my body, it's usually because I feel my body's betraying me, whether that's been in the past, struggling with my weight and feeling that I couldn't eat what I wanted to eat, or that I couldn't get my body to do what I wanted it to do."

Moore also (kind of) addresses her split in the interview. "I used to think that what scared me was the idea of being abandoned until someone said to me, 'Only children can be abandoned. Adults can't be abandoned because we have a choice. Children don't have a choice.'"So I started to rethink," Moore notes. "'Okay, it's not that. What's the underlying thread that really scares me?' I think what scares me is not having the courage to reach my full potential."

And with three failed marriages behind her (Moore was previously married for four years to musician Freddy Moore and for 13 years to Bruce Willis, with whom she had three daughters), the "G.I. Jane" actress reveals another big fear.

"I would say what scares me is that I'm going to ultimately find out at the end of my life that I'm really not lovable, that I'm not worthy of being loved," Moore reveals. "That there's something fundamentally wrong with me."

I think what she really is fearing is getting older. You simply cannnot stay 25 forever. Even those 25 turn 26 in a year! I imagine that it is very hard for women celebrities in the film industry as they age. They are celebrated for their talent but also for their appearance, so losing that image of who they were can be hard. But, Demi..."the best is yet to come. Youth shows but half. Trust God. See all. The thing that sticks out to me on this article - is how do they know the marriages "failed"? How do we know they didn't run their course like other relationships and end when they were supposed to?! Why do people have to be in a relationship to be whole? Shouldn't a relationship just be the "icing on the cake" to being whole yourself?! And shouldn't Demi love herself before she looks for love from someone else?

  Amen Carol, I so agree.......through all the relationships I've been in in my life, I look at them as stepping stones in my cycle of learning about me. A cycle that helps to complete our "blueprints" if you will and I've learned I don't need a relationship to feel whole. It's a bonus, a compliment to my life, so to speak, and it's always nice to have. But it's not a necessary thing to have to live a complete life and feel whole. That's an individual internal thing in my mind.

It's realistic that we all have insecurities, even those we perceive as "perfect", by most standards. I think she looks great for 49. My brother calls her "skelletor". She is just not eating because of her breakup, (I do the same thing) but will get back to a healthy weight, once she is mentally healthy.

I think being an actress might have something to do with her feeling they way she does...reason she thinks people "love" her for the roles she plays or associate her with different role so she really not sure who she is/who to be. and being an aging star doesn't help even with surgeries you know that your not who you used to be and think everyone else see you like you do..(we are are biggest critic except when your in the entertainment industry)..and then have a young husband ..men are men they all want something younger except when their young then they want what's hot ..(not sure really if that might be what wrong but could play a part in her feeling of self worth) ...no one has it all. youth..love money fame happiness peace....so take what you have and work with it or make it work..life to short to worry about what others think as long as you are truly happy on the inside the outside will follow

I don't think this poor woman is making a fool of herself in any way. I think she feels she was made a fool of by a man who had sex with another woman on their (his and Demi's) wedding anniversary, but I don't think Demi is making a fool of herself. I think she's a little thrown and talking some time to get her bearings. Like any NORMAL woman who was just cheated on.
