"For the first eight years of my life, I didn't have front teeth. I was pretty sick as an infant, and antibiotics rotted them," says Theron, who grew up in South Africa. "But then I started to take dance classes, and I eventually got some teeth [laughs]. When I was 16, I went to Milan to model."
Modeling eventually led to acting, and Theron's star began rising after her role in the dark 1996 film "2 Days in the Valley," a part she got thanks to a very spirited audition.
"I remember I was in a catsuit," recalls the actress. "I'd never auditioned before. I looked like a maniac. It was a dying scene, so I barged through the door and started crawling on the floor. I think they were too scared not to give me the role."
To the rest of us, Theron has the perfect body (just check out these pics from the W spread, or her sexy red carpet look at the Golden Globes last Sunday), but she does accept a little help in a certain department.
"I wear those!" Theron exclaims of the silicone breast "cutlets" her character Mavis in "Young Adults" dons for a little extra bosom endowment in the film. "If you don't have boobs, you wear those cutlets."
The new issue of W hits newsstands January 24.
