Channing Tatum: ‘I’m Not Ashamed of [Stripping]‘

When you interview a celebrity, you typically expect to receive a list of topics they won't talk about, a time limit, and maybe even spot a publicist sitting nearby. But that's not how Channing Tatum conducts them. For the new issue of GQ, the "G.I. Joe" star spent a night in the desert outside L.A. with a reporter and revealed more of himself than most famous folks ever do.

First of all, Channing -- who goes by Chan -- was more than willing to talk about his former career as a stripper. After all, it was taking off his clothes for screaming women that led to modeling and acting in movies like "Step Up." Although his "people" did their best to keep his stripper past secret, eventually it came back to haunt him when someone sold a videotape of him dirty dancing to Us Weekly in 2009. Fortunately, Channing couldn't have cared less. "I had wanted to tell people," he explains. "I'm not ashamed of it. I don't regret one thing. I'm not a person who hides s--t."

One thing Channing does lament in the feature is that people tend to see him as a hottie, not as a serious actor. "No one's calling me for lawyer roles," the 30-year-old says. "I still have a lot to do to prove myself." Although he hopes to be perceived differently one day, Channing is content right now working on projects like the upcoming remake of "21 Jump Street."

At one point during the adventure, Chan makes a call to his wife, actress Jenna Dewan, who is clearly not the jealous type: the reporter was a woman! But that didn't stop Chan from barhopping and having quite the wild night with her -- tequila, separate Snuggies, and all. Along the way, the star shares that, "I lived crazy really young. So now I don't need to go out and get nuts."
