Jennifer Lopez always dresses to impress! - INFphoto.comAs everybody knows, the Oscars are this Sunday night. While I typically love the awards show, this year it feels ... different. With the economy in the dumps, do I really want to watch a bunch of wealthy stars strutting down the red carpet in expensive designer gowns and borrowed bling? To see celebs flaunting their excess and congratulating themselves at yet another awards show just seems wrong. It makes you kind of sick when you think of all the people out there who are losing their jobs, their homes, and their health insurance. On the flip side, perhaps a celebrity fashion faux pas or two will lift everyone's spirits!

When WWD.com asked Jennifer Lopez about getting dressed up in these down times, the singer/actress revealed she has no plans to change her style. "I don't think there's anything wrong with playing dress up right now," stated J.Lo. "Who wouldn't want to wear borrowed dresses and borrowed jewelry? I think you can get criticized if you're wearing borrowed dresses now

Fashion-savvy women are crazy for Kate Moss' Topshop line. - Nick Harvey/WireImage.comIf you're a celebrity, you can do just about anything you want -- even if you're not necessarily good at it. Musicians get cast in movies, actors land record deals, and now both musicians and actors get to design (or rather lend their names to) clothing lines, some of which are actually semi-affordable.

"The Thread" examines this trend and showcases several celebrity "designers," including Beyonce Knowles, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Simpson, and supermodel Kate Moss. Watch the episode below to find out why New Yorkers cannot wait to get their hands on Kate's Topshop collection when a branch of the popular British chain opens in Soho this spring!

Instead, "The Thread" is back once again naming some of the most stylish ladies on television, and this time it's TV doctors.

So who's saving lives while looking fabulous and fierce? Obviously more than one of the "Grey's" ladies gets a shout out, but some newer actresses are also making their fashion mark. My personal fave, and number one on the list, is "House's" Olivia Wilde. This fresh face is gorgeous and always stylish on the red carpet.

    • Fashion Rule Breakers

Becki Newton dares to mix brown and black at New York Fashion Week. - Astrid Stawiarz/GettyImages.comSpending a January day in 80 degree Southern California makes it pretty difficult to stick to standard fashion rules like "no white after Labor Day" and "no open-toed shoes in winter." Fortunately, "The Thread" has proclaimed that these rules are no longer in effect, even for fashionistas in chillier climates like NYC -- "The Thread's" home turf.

One of my favorite fashion daredevils, "Ugly Betty's" gorgeous Becki Newton, was photographed breaking the ridiculous rule that black and brown don't mix. In my opinion, Newton looks fab in this brown strapless dress and big black belt. And if she's bold enough to wear this to New York Fashion Week, I think the rest of us can give it a try!

Check out "The Thread" to find out which other fashion rules were made to be broken:

Sandra Bullock rocked a sexy snake bracelet at this year's Golden Globe Awards. - Steve Granitz/WireImage.comIn these trying economic times, the best way to keep your look up to date is by spicing up your current wardrobe with hot accessories. A pair of chandelier earrings or a sparkling new brooch can completely change the look of an old dress.

One current trend that I can't get enough of is snake-inspired jewelry. I don't want to run in to a snake in real life, but I love any piece of jewelry that is adorned with the slithery reptile! While most of us can't afford the sexy Bochic snake bracelet that Sandra Bullock wore to this year's Golden Globe Awards, Urban Outfitters does have a snake bracelet currently on sale for $14.99! Okay, I admit that it does not compare at ALL to Sandra's gorgeous arm adornment, but if you want to get in on a trend that won't last forever, you can't beat the price.

Watch the latest episode of "The Thread" to find out where you can get other fabulous accessories without spending a fortune.
