    A-Line: Celebrity Style
    • Stars Love ‘the Dylan’

I'm always amazed when celebrities become so big they only have to go by one name. Oprah. Madonna. Cher. (No, not Lisa Rinna pictured at left, but I love her spunk just the same.)

So imagine my shock when I hear from friends at a cocktail shindig that one of the most highly anticipated celebrity comebacks of the fall will be Dylan's return to the scene. I think, "Dylan McKay from '90210'?" Nope. It turns out the famous "Dylan" is a bag. I thought it took making an appearance on "Sex in the City" for a purse to become a one-namer -- remember the Birkin? But I digress...

Apparently "the Dylan" -- brought to us by the belt and bag sophisticates at Linea Pelle -- has been a celebrity go-to since its inception about a year-and-a-half ago. Rihanna, Vanessa Minnillo, and Marcia Cross have all been spotted toting a version of the company's signature piece.

Now, about the bag's moniker ... the one-name wonder's designer, Andrew Cotton, says the name of an item is as important as the bag

"The Thread" was lucky enough to have front row seats on the red carpet for all the fashion hits and misses. Check 'em out:

    • Kate Winslet’s Award-Winning Style

Kate Winslet looked fabulous as she took home the Best Actress trophy from the 81st Annual Academy Awards. - Kristian Dowling/WireImage.comAfter a decade of producing stellar work, Kate Winslet finally won a much deserved Oscar last Sunday. Kudos to her for that, but what's really impressed me this awards season wasn't her massive collection of trophies but her gorgeous red carpet looks from one event to the next. Kate clearly has fun mixing up her different styles, playing with some color, and showing her botoxed colleagues that keeping it natural is beautiful -- and allows an actress to show emotion onscreen so you can win awards for years to come!

The season started in January at the Golden Globes, where Kate donned an exquisite black Yves St. Laurent strapless gown. She chose YSL again for this week's Oscar ceremony. Her one-shoulder gray dress had beautiful black lace detail and definitely looked like something a Best Actress winner would wear. While Kate's 8-year-old daughter was "mortified" that she donned a gray dress, the gown was a hit with most red carpet watchers.

For the BAFTAs in London, Kate rocked a Zac

    • Kanye West: Rapper, Producer, Intern?

Kanye West hits the American Music Awards red carpet in a jacket from his Pastelle men's clothing line. - Frank Micelotta/GettyImages.comKanye West is getting a new gig ... in fashion! And after watching his recent performance on "Saturday Night Live" (loved the look, did not love the singing), I think a mini-break from music might be a good idea.

Following in the footsteps of other rapper-turned-designers like Sean John's Sean "Diddy" Combs and Rocawear cofounder Jay-Z, Kanye plans to set down the mic and pick up a sketch pad. For once, West is displaying some humility and is taking the time to learn the biz. According to the Mirror, he's applying for internships at various European design houses, including the London headquarters of Louis Vuitton.

"I'm going to go and take an internship and just do something that'slike completely normal, and just rap at the weekends or something," West reportedly told the British tabloid.

I commend Kanye for attempting to get some training in his new chosen field, but perhaps he should have sought it before launching his own collection. According to the Mirror, he's already set to

    • Fashion Faceoff: Diane vs. Marisa

Are you ready for another fashion faceoff? This go round, Diane Kruger clashes with Marisa Tomei. First up, the German actress best known for her roles in Joshua Jackson's personal life, "Troy," "National Treasure," and "Wicker Park." The blond beauty attended the premiere of "Pour Elle" in Paris late last year while wearing an ivory pocketed Giambattista Valli frock. She paired the dress with ruby red pumps and a loose updo.

Marisa Tomei, on the other hand, hit the carpet in a dark version of the dress two months later at the Creative Coalition's Inaugural Ball in Washington, D.C. The Oscar winner opted to accessorize with matching black heels and gorgeous jewelry.

We have another close call on our hands. I typically prefer black gowns over white ones, but Diane's delicious footwear and casual coif look amazing. I love me my Marisa, but Diane gets the win this time. What do you think?

    • JT Brings Acid Wash Back

William Rast's Johan Lindeberg, Justin Timberlake, Trace Ayala, and Marcella Lindeberg hit the runway to debut their fall '09 collection. - Frazer Harrison/Getty ImagesLast week rumors surfaced that the next William Rast collection, which is the clothing line created by Justin Timberlake and friends, would feature one of the worst fashion crimes of the 1980s: acid washed denim! JT, what are you thinking?!

Yesterday, Justin unveiled the William Rast Fall 2009 collection during New York Fashion Week, and I'm sorry to say the clothes are worse than I feared. Not only was acid washed denim on display, but JT, his BFF Trace Ayala, and creative directors Johan and Marcella Lindeberg, chose the worst of all acid wash ... black denim! Oh, the horror!

The singer/actor/hottie extraordinaire almost always looks fabulous when he dresses himself, but I suppose we can't forget that horrible denim-on-denim ensemble from his days with Britney Spears.

On a positive note, I will say that some the William Rast designs for men are totally fine. The jackets are all pretty much a hit, and I love a man in a scarf, but the womens' silouettes are all wrong. Aren't we over

    • Christina Aguilera Aims to ‘Inspire’

Christina Aguilera just launched a new fragrance called "Inspire" at Macy's in New York's Herald Square. The pop star hopes her latest scent will encourage women to "be inspired, be sexy, and be exactly who you want to be." Kind of sounds like the theme in a lot of the outspoken singer's hit records, and that sounds pretty fabulous to me.

Want to sniff the new scent? You can pick it up at Macy's or be cheap like me and order a free sample from the official website.

Check out the commercial and see if you're inspired:

Pencil skirts are also hot with celebs like Angie Harmon, Katherine Heigl, and Victoria Beckham. Check out some of my fave stars sporting the sleek, body-hugging silhouette:

    • Paris Hilton vs. Vanessa Minnillo

I'm not the biggest fan of this dress, nor am I particularly fond of the celebs who've been sporting it as of late. In any case, we have to decide who wore it best.

Paris Hilton pops a pose at "Late Show With David Letterman." - Roger Wong/INFphoto.comVanessa Minnillo attends the "TRL" series finale in NYC. - Bryan Bedder/GettyImages.com

Vanessa Minnillo attempted to rock the Tracey Reese frock at the "TRL" finale last week. The woman best known for her current role as Nick Lachey's girlfriend (post Jessica) paired the star-spangled mess with strappy black heels. On the other hand, Paris opted to pose in the strapless bowtie bomb along with some Louboutins ... and those crazy bangs.

Personally, I can't get past Paris' foul fake bake. Look at those legs! Her blindingly white ankles are too distracting. As a result, I'm giving the win to Vanessa.
