A Beatles Reunion For The Sake Of 'LOVE'

By Access HollywoodJune 18, 2007, 7:31 am PDT

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (June 18, 2007) -- The surviving members of the world's most celebrated rock band, The Beatles, will attend a special dedication ceremony in honor of the late John Lennon and George Harrison, in conjunction with the one-year anniversary of Cirque du Soleil's "LOVE."

Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr will be joined by Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison for the dedication, taking place on June 26 at the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas.

"LOVE," which celebrates the musical legacy of The Beatles, was born out of a personal friendship and mutual admiration between George Harrison and Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Lalibert, who will also be on hand for the event.

During the show's rehearsals in May of last year, McCartney and Lalibert discussed how best to recognize Lennons and Harrison's contributions to the show. Cirque du Soleil designers have since created two plaques that will be unveiled at the dedication ceremony, and then permanently displayed in the "LOVE" Theatre lobby at The Mirage.

McCartney spoke with Access Hollywood last year as the Las Vegas show was ramping up, and confessed that he still marvels today that he was part of the band that forever changed the face of popular music. I wake up some mornings and think, I was in The Beatles?, McCartney said. There's only four people can say that in the world, in the universe -- and I'm one of them, you know.

"LOVE" has played to sold-out audiences, won critical raves, and spawned a best-selling soundtrack of remastered Beatles classics. Celebrity guests such as George Clooney, Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes, Nicole Kidman & Keith Urban, Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson have all seen "LOVE" and raved about their experience.

Following the ceremony on the 26th (which will also recognize the 40th anniversary of quintessential Beatles album "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band"), CNN's Larry King will interview Paul, Ringo, Yoko, Olivia and Guy for his one hour broadcast from The Beatles REVOLUTION Lounge at The Mirage in Las Vegas. The distinguished guests will then attend a special one year anniversary performance of "LOVE."

  • Paul McCartney has brought joy to people for more than 40 years and keeps the magic of the Beatles music alive with love and enthusiasm so a whole new generation can enjoy the Beatles music as much as those of us who were there from the beginning. To say he does it for money (he obviously doesn't need it) and that he is taking advantage of the Beatles is ludicrous.

  • Maybe Pink Floyd will be a part of the "Great Gig in the Sky" and play "Money" as a tribute to anything Paul Mc Cartney thinks about when it comes to taking advantage of the Beatles.
